An organic mattress is an alternative to a standard mattress. With a recent ban passed by the US CPSC on phthalates in crib mattresses,
organic mattress, either as an adult mattress or an organic crib mattress, is a benefit to your living space. An organic mattress is available in several different types, with the most popular being an organic cotton mattress. Other types include a rubber or organic latex mattress or an organic wool mattress. The latter, however, is not 100-percent organic wool but contains wool for its fire retardant and wicking properties.
An organic cotton mattress is common as an adult full organic mattress or as an organic baby mattress. An organic cotton mattress is an organic innerspring

mattress, with the mattress filled with cotton and surrounded by wool. The benefit of an organic cotton mattress is that the mattress is free of chemicals found typically in conventionally-produced cotton. For an
organic crib mattress, an organic cotton mattress also has no phthalates, using, instead, food-grade polyethylene to waterproof the mattress. To make an organic cotton mattress fire retardant, many organic mattress types with cotton have wool included, as well. The wool and the cotton are quilted together to make a comfortable and naturally fire retardant organic mattress.
Rubber is another option for an organic mattress. An organic rubber mattress, or an organic latex mattress, is not an organic innerspring mattress, and its support comes from a six to seven-inch piece of rubber. The

rubber in an organic latex mattress is at a medium to firm density and is surrounded by quilted cotton and wool. While rubber itself weighs four pounds per cubic foot, the rubber in an
organic latex mattress has holes in it for a softer texture. The holes are added to the rubber, which originates in Malaysia, but the rubber itself has antimicrobial, mildew, mold, and bacterial properties. The added cotton and wool combination makes it fire retardant and absorbent, as the rubber should not get wet. Aside from not getting wet, an organic latex mattress should be turned every few weeks.
Aside from an organic mattress, an organic mattress pad is necessary to protect your mattress. An organic mattress pad, or an organic baby mattress cover, is typically made from cotton for its absorbent properties. Organic mattress pads prevent the mattress from getting wet, which is particularly important for an organic baby mattress but also for an organic latex mattress. Instead of being treated with various harmful chemicals, an organic cotton mattress pad relies on its natural properties to protect.
